Sky and Verizon are partnering to launch a nationwide VODacast service in the Gulf state of Qatar.

The launch will be rolled out over the next 12 months.

Vodacasts will be accessible on the Sky and Virgin Mobile apps and in Sky’s own app, and on mobile devices that can be used for VOD subscriptions.

“We are delighted to be bringing Vodamax to the Gulf region and are proud to partner with our partner Sky and the world’s largest satellite provider Virgin Mobile to bring our popular VOD service to the region,” said Vodaman Zuhair al-Qadir, vice-president of operations at Sky.

Sky and Virgin are set to launch Vodas global digital TV service, Sky TV in Qatari, in April.

A statement from Sky said the service will deliver local TV, movies and sporting events in a “new, dynamic way”.

“It is a natural fit for our business as we want to deliver our customers’ best experiences on-demand, at the touch of a button, to the most people,” said Mr Qadir.

“We have invested heavily in the Vodams unique content ecosystem and will continue to do so as part of our strategy to grow the VOD market.”
