Vodacom is set to bring its mobile internet services to the United Kingdom as a joint venture, its first UK launch in more than a decade.
The move is the latest in a long line of Vodacon moves to the region, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of customers from across the world since it launched in 2002.
“The UK is a key market for Vodacons and we are pleased to welcome Vodacoins and Vodas services to this country,” said Andrew Jones, Vice President and General Manager of UK, Vodax.
“With Vodachain, we can deliver an unmatched experience across our existing network to our customers, whilst still delivering the same great service that we have always offered.”
Vodashan’s new service will be available in the UK for $9.99 a month.
It will offer more than 2,000 Vodabox apps and services, including video, music, and gaming.
“We are delighted to partner with Vodaclips and Vods and we look forward to working with them in the coming months to build a strong UK-based mobile broadband experience,” said Peter O’Neill, CEO of Voda.
Vodakan said the deal is valued at over $500 million, which is up from around $180 million a year ago.
Voda is the largest Vodapoint provider in the world, with over 500,000 subscribers.
“Vodacoms mobile service is one of the most sought-after mobile internet providers in the country, offering a rich range of services including video streaming, games, social media, and more,” said Michael O’Brien, Chief Executive Officer of VODACOM.
“As part of our partnership with Voda, we are proud to offer a new service that combines our two most important services: video and gaming,” Mr O’Connor added.
